I have posted the score to my latest string quartet “After Sol LeWitt: Wall Drawing #995” on my SCORES page. It is a single movement piece inspired by and modeled after Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing #995. It was commissioned by and written for the Bechtler Ensemble which is the ensemble in residence for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, NC. It will be premiered by the Bechtler Ensemble in April 2023 as part of the annual Boom Festival in Charlotte, NC. There will be subsequent performances including a performance at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. “After Sol LeWitt – Wall Drawing #995” is my take on making the colors and proportions of Sol Lewitt’s Wall Drawing #995 audible. Each section represents, in sound, a front, side, or top of one of the rectangular segments of the drawing. There is one segment that appears three times and is based on the red caps of the three legs. It is modified slightly each time to reflect how each cap seems to skew the perspective relative to the rest of the drawing. The piece is a series of color fields with varying textures and harmonic colors inspired by and modeled on Wall Drawing #995 which can be viewed in the preference to the score for “After Sol LeWitt: Wall Drawing #995”.
