I am pleased to announce that I have been selected as the winner of the 2022 South Carolina Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer. I will be composing a new piece for solo piano titled “Dum spiro spero” which will be premiered at SCMTA’s State Conference at Anderson University on November 3-5, 2022. . “Dum spiro spero” is the state of South Carolina’s motto which translates into “While I breath, I hope”. “Dum spiro spero” will be written for pianist Tomoko Deguchi who will perform the premiere.
I am thrilled and humbled to have been selected for this commission. South Carolina has many talented composers and I am proud to be counted among them. Look for updates as the premiere draws near. This is my second SCMTA commission, the first resulted in FRINGE for clarinet/saxophone, piano, and percussion.
It will be great to get back to live performances of my music. There is nothing quite like experiencing new music performed live for an audience for the first time.
