Many thanks to Tanja Bechtler and the Bechtler Ensemble for their outstanding performance of my latest composition for string quarter “After Sol LeWitt: Wall Drawing # 995”. The performance, which featured Lenora Leggatt, violin, Kari Giles, violin, Ben Geller, viola, and Tanja Bechtler, cello was excellent and well received. The concert was the final concert of the 2023 season for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art “Music and Museum” series. All five pieces on the program were written for the event and in addition to my piece included “…Of Quiet Reflection” by Craig Bove, “Lines With Color” by Leonard Mark Lewis, “String Quartet No. 3” (Movements I and VII) by Malek Jandali, and “Blades of Grass” by Zach Zubow. All of the compositions were written in reaction to Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing # 995 which is on loan to the museum and featured prominently in the first floor lobby. The concert took place in the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art lobby with Sol Lewitt’s Wall Drawing # 995 on display. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to write for such fine musicians and to be a part of this special event. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is located in uptown Charlotte NC and houses a wide variety of modern art. It is a must see when visiting Charlotte.
